We are less than 1 month away from the start of the World Championship and all of the participating teams have been decided. Amongst them we find the boys in orange. Fnatic will be representing Europe as the 2nd seed from the LEC. The road there wasn’t easy though. The team had to endure three back to back 5 games series in the losers’ bracket just to qualify for Worlds.

Despite falling to the Lions in the final, Fnatic’s run was an accomplishment in itself and has given them another chance to prove themselves at the international stage.

Fnatic’s run to the LEC finals

Even after the conclusion of the LEC finals we’ve been able to enjoy Fnatic on the rift. I’m obviously referring to Fnatic Rising, who battled their way through the European Masters. The NLC representative fought their way through the Play-Ins and the Group Stage to earn themselves a spot in the Playoffs.

Fnatic Rising’s path to the Knockout Stage

As the last NLC representative remaining in the tournament, Fnatic headed into the final stage with guns blazing. In their run to the finals they took down the Spanish 3rd seed, Movistar Riders and the French 1st seed, Misfits Premier.

In the deciding BO5 we got to watch a 5 game long battle that had all of Europe on the edge of their seats. In the end, LFL’s own Karmine Corp lifted the trophy and became the first team ever to become back to back EUM champions.

EUM Playoff Bracket

With Worlds just around the corner we just have to take a quick look at the draws we have so far. Fnatic was slotted into group C together with RNG and PSG. All around a good draw for the European 2nd seed, dodging most of the pre tournament favorites. Rouge did unfortunately not get as lucky, ending up in group A with the 2020- and 2021 champions; FPX and DK.

I’d say we are looking at one of the most stacked Worlds events to date. With the Play-In teams slotting in, we’re guaranteed some fantastic matchups in all four groups. The tournament will kick off October 5, so don’t be late!
